Gene Martignetti had spent more than 30 years in the salon industry, and was working as an executive with Graham Webb when his 15-year old son was diagnosed with leukemia. Martignetti began reading about the chemicals we slather on our skin and hair - chemicals like sodium laureth sulfate, a cleanser found in many soaps and shampoos that some say is potentially carcinogenic. He decided the professional hair care industry needed safer products to offer, without sacrificing performance, so in 1991 he and his friend, Joe Mostrom, launched Simply Organics. 

Today, Corey is cancer free and has taken up his father's cause, along with Joe Mostrom's son and Corey's childhood friend, Jeremiah. Together, the two young men have grown Simply Organic from a fledgling local business to an international success story, with flagship salons from Washington to New York, Rome and Hong Kong.

The vast majority of their ingredients are certified organic, and they strive to use only the safest synthetic and naturally-derived ingredients when organic ingredients are unable to deliver salon-quality performance.

Why We Like It
At The Nature of Beauty, we have learned some valuable lessons in the chemistry of beauty products. When it comes to hair care and our expectations for it, most consumers aren't willing to sacrifice certain aspects of performance in order to use only organic products. So we set out on a quest to find a company developing hair care that uses a maximum amount of organic ingredients, works closely with their chemists to ensure that safety continues to be of a high priority when turning to synthetic or semi-synthetic ingredients, and is open and honest about when and why these ingredients are being used. We found that in Simply Organic, a Minnesota-based company with a clear devotion to safety, transparency, and maintaining high ethical standards.
