Sustainable Youth Technologies

By now, most of us understand that skin ages due to the damage and destruction of skin cells. As we get older, our skin loses its ability to rebound from the damage caused by years of exposure to the sun, pollution, oxidative stress, and inflammation.

The anti-aging industry, therefore, focuses on both preventing further damage by preventing cell damage, while also reversing the effects of the aforementioned assaults on the skin by repairing the damage that has already been done. The debate rages on as to the ability of any product to accomplish the latter, but with the launch of Sustainable Youth Technologies, we now have visual, scientific evidence that perhaps Mother Nature – not chemistry – holds the key to healthier, dramatically younger-looking skin.

Developed in conjunction with the University of Mississippi’s National Center for Natural Products Research (NCNPR), Sustainable Youth Technologies has developed a trio of anti-aging products based on sound science and visible results. The active ingredient is Alasta, discovered by the University and used exclusively by SYT. Using double-blind clinical trials, and objective instruments (rather than the participants’ self-report), 70% of individuals who took Alasta as an oral supplement experienced up to 61% improvement in skin elasticity. Of those who used Alasta topically, 100% of participants experienced up to 72% improvement in skin elasticity.

So what is Alasta? Perhaps not surprisingly, Alasta comes from the organic aloe vera plant, long known for its healing, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. Researchers at NCNPR were studying the effects of aloe vera on the immune system when they happened upon a specific molecule inside the plant’s rind that appeared to not only boost the immune system and reduce inflammation, it also helped increase skin elasticity and reduced wrinkles. Even better, the process used to extract Alasta is environmentally sustainable (no part of the aloe plant is wasted).

From there, they partnered with SYT to create a trio of 100% natural products that would maximize the power of Alasta in a way that was environmentally responsible, affordable, and effective. To demonstrate just how effective their products are at reducing the signs of aging, SYT conducted case studies, taking regular photos of participants over the course of 4 weeks. Why We Like It

We were first drawn in by the rigorous scientific approach to this anti-aging line. Jaded by all of the youth enhancement claims with nothing to back them up, it was exciting and inspiring to find a company basing their claims on double-blind clinical trials and case studies with untouched before and after photos.

Certainly, we had a healthy dose of skepticism mixed in with the hope and excitement that came with the discovery of these products. Something about it seemed a bit too good to be true, perhaps a bit like one of those As Seen on TV ads that promises to burn fat while you sleep.

So when the products arrived, Nature of Beauty president Terri Bly took before and after photos of herself to examine the results for herself. The results? Honest to goodness younger looking skin. “I have received more comments on how young I look in the past month than in last 10 years combined,” reports Bly, who recently turned 36. “Most notably, my eyes look younger. I compared the ‘After’ photo to headshots I had taken when I was 23, and there really isn’t much difference.”
